HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 c601W
Mr. George Cunningham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what reply he has sent to the representations of the Housing Associations' Registration Advisory Committee about the registration criteria to be established by the Housing Corporation in respect of the earnings of fees by housing association committee members.

Mr. Crosland

I have written to Mr. Harold Campbell, the chairman of the Advisory Committee, to say that I am prepared to give the assurance he sought, namely, that it is the Government's firm intention to introduce at the first opportunity an amendment to the Housing Act 1974 in order to enable registration to take place on the basis of the advice given to the Housing Corporation by the Advisory Committee. This advice was that after an adaptation period lasting until 1st October 1976 it should not be permitted for the committee members of registered housing associations to receive fees or other payments, other than honoraria, from these associations. In registering housing associations the Housing Corporation will in appropriate cases draw attention to this undertaking.
