HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 cc615-6W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what proportion of energy consumption goes into heating domestic, public, industrial and other buildings; and what proportion of energy is consumed in premises which are not insulated to standards accepted as adequate by other European countries with temperate climates.

Mr. Freeson

I have been asked to reply.

It is estimated that about 20 per cent. of the gross annual United Kingdom energy consumption is used in heating domestic buildings. The proportion used in other building types is substantial but not known precisely. Since standards vary considerably according to the age and type of building and between individual countries the comparison requested cannot be made.
