asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the total number of civilian personnel employed by the Ministry of Defence including those working for each of the Armed Services, and the percentage relationship between that total and the total strength of the Armed Services.

The total strength of civilian personnel employed by the Ministry of Defence, including those working for each of the Armed Services, is 298,314. The total strength of the Armed Services is 356,129. Civilians comprise 45.58 per cent. of the overall total and the Armed Services 54.42 per cent.
