HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 cc554-5W
50. Mr. Kinnock

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the present level of import duties or levies imposed on beef imported into the United Kingdom from outside the Common Market.

Mr. Strang

Full details of import duties are contained in the Import Duties (General) No. 8 Order (1973). Current information about rates of levy and compensatory amounts is published weekly by the Intervention Board for Agricultural Produce from which details can be obtained. The rates of levy for imports vary according to the cut of beef. Net United Kingdom levies at present range from £7.8146 per cwt. for bone-in fresh and chilled forequarters beef to £17.1494 per cwt. for frozen boneless cuts. The only beef at present imported is free of levies under the GATT quota arrangements.
