HC Deb 05 December 1974 vol 882 cc557-8W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will discuss with local authorities and interested voluntary organisations a Dig for Britain Campaign to encourage maximum food production from public allotments and private gardens.

Mr. Bishop

The Government are committed to a policy of encouraging the maximum economic production of food in the United Kingdom. The contribution of allotments and domestic gardens to food production is very welcome.

Local allotment authorities can contribute through the provision of sufficient land for allotments to meet demand. There are opportunities for voluntary bodies to encourage economic cropping.
