asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is her estimate of the number of retirement pensioners in England and Wales who are now householders.

I regret that this information is not available. It is estimated, however, that, in 1971, there were slightly under 4½ million households in England and Wales in which the head of household was over pensionable age. About 2 million of these were owner-occupiers.
