HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 c497W
Mr. Hayhoe

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when the £2 parking fine was introduced in central London; what increase would now be required to take account of the falling value of money; and whether any increase is planned.

Dr. Summerskill

The £2 fixed penalty, to which I assume the hon. Member is referring, was introduced in the Metropolis in 1960 and in the City of London in 1961. I understand that to take account of changes in the internal purchasing power of the £ since 1960 the amount would have to be increased to about £4.60. The question of increasing the fixed penalty is at present under consideration.
