HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 c531W
67. Mr. Peter Mills

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the problems experienced by parish councils in connection with the allocation of local council houses, he will issue guidance to district councils on methods by which parish councils may play a larger part in the process of allocation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Kaufman

I doubt the need for specific guidance on this matter. I would expect housing authorities to appreciate the value of the specialised local knowledge which parish councils can bring to the authorities' task of formulating and operating an allocation policy for meeting the needs of their district as a whole. The detailed consultation arrangements are however a matter for agreement between the councils concerned.
