Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his estimate of the number of EEC regulations now applicable in areas of British life for which his Department has responsibility.

Mr. William Ross

An analysis of EEC legislation on the lines requested could only be answered, in so far as it was practicable, at an unjustifiable cost to public funds. As an indication of the number of Community Regulations and Instruments which would need to be searched through, an estimate of the total number of Community Regulations and Instruments applicable to the United Kingdom was published in HANSARD of 2nd July 1974.—[Vol. 876, c.47.]
