HC Deb 04 December 1974 vol 882 cc526-7W
46. Mr. Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is able to make known a timetable respecting developments in the Central Lancashire New Town area; and what plans he has for public participation in respect of the North-West Strategic Plan and the Central Lancashire New Town Plans, where they may appear to conflict in regard to the allocation of resources.

Mr. John Silkin

The Outline Plan for Central Lancashire New Town, after an extensive public participation exercise by the development corporation, is the subject of a public inquiry now in progress. The strategic plan report, which has been available to the public since May this year, is one of the related documents being taken into account by the inspector at the inquiry. My decisions on the rate and phasing of development in the new town, on any conflicts between the two plans, and on whether still further public participation would be useful in resolving any such conflicts, must await the completion of the inquiry and of the inspector's report.
