HC Deb 03 December 1974 vol 882 c413W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will now make a statement on the unemployment and short-time working situation in Scotland.

Mr. John Fraser

Unemployment in Scotland is still too high, though there has been some improvement this year in the position relative to Great Britain as a whole. There are currently 8,740 workers known to the Department to be on short time. In certain parts of Scotland, however, there is now a strong demand for workers, especialy for skilled workers.
