Information about the strength of the Fleet is published in statements on the Defence Estimates. Details for the three years in question are as follows:

operational squadrons in the RAF Regiment; and what is their operational rôle.

Mr. John

There are 12 operational squadrons in the RAF Regiment employed in the low-level air defence and field roles. The field squadrons are employed in the ground defence of airfields and installations. The squadrons are deployed in the United Kingdom, Germany and Cyprus; other overseas commitments are met by roulement from the United Kingdom-based squadrons. I would, however, refer the hon. Member to the statement made earlier today by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.
