§ Mr. Kilfedderasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement about a review of the existing arrangements for local preference in housing to ensure that the points system is fair to local residents.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesThe Housing Executive's selection scheme has been designed to give priority to those in greatest need throughout Northern Ireland. Local residents do, however, have some special allowance of points.
The scheme has been in effect in Northern Ireland for less than a year. More time must be allowed to assess the effectiveness of the arrangements before any modifications are considered.
