§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what percentage savings in energy consumption she expects to achieve this year within her Department and all establishments over which she has responsibility; and what percentage savings she is budgeting for next year;
(2) what action she has taken to assist and advise establishments with which her Department is concerned to conserve energy.
§ Mr. Alec JonesMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment, who is responsible for the management of the Government Estate, expects energy savings in that area to amount to 6 per cent. in 1974–75 and 7 per cent. in 1975–76. The staff of my Department are reminded from time to time of the need to conserve fuel.
General guidance was issued to health authorities in November 1973 on ways of achieving economies in the use of energy, and this is still applicable. Additional technical advice on aspects of energy saving has recently been issued to them, and further guidance is being prepared.
