HC Deb 03 December 1974 vol 882 c422W
63. Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how the combined populations of the Carmarthen and Llanelli constituencies in 1974 compare with 1961; and what proportions of the two constituencies were retirement pensioners at the two dates.

Mr. John Morris

The combined populations of the Carmarthen and Llanelli constituencies were 167,640 in 1961 and 162,770 in 1973, according to mid-year estimates made by the Registrar-General. No figures are yet available for 1974. No current data are available on the number of retirement pensioners in the area. However, the percentage of persons over pensionable age in the two constituencies was 15.9 in 1961 and 19 in 1971 according to the results of the respective censuses. No later figures are available.
