HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 cc331-2W
Mr. Cordle

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of the recent unauthorised and improper wine mixing in the Bordeaux region of France, if he will take steps to ensure that all wine imported into the United Kingdom is authentically labelled.

Mr. Strang

Prosecutions brought recently by the French authorities in Bordeaux indicate their determination to ensure that French wine is properly produced and accurately labelled. In this country the Wine Standards Board and its inspectorate would take up with their

maximum sentences imposed for breach of the Agriculture (First Aid) Regulations 1957 in 1970, 1971, 1972, and 1973.

Mr. Strang

The information is given in the following table:

opposite numbers in France or elsewhere any instances where it seemed possible that wine was not correctly described on the label or in the accompanying documents now in use.
