HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 cc381-2W
Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many sheltered housing units there are per 1,000 population aged 65 years and over in England and Great Britain, respectively.

Mr. Kaufman

Statistics on the numbers in England and Great Britain of existing dwellings specially designed for old people are not available. However, in tenders accepted by local authorities during 1969 to 1973 the numbers of these units which will have the service of a warden are equivalent to 5.8 per 1,000 of the populatiion aged 65 years or more in England and 5.4 in Great Britain.
