The strength of the Special Constabulary was 23,704 on 31st December 1973, the latest date for which figures are available. I regret that figures for 1st October 1973 are not available.

§ Mr. Alexander W. LyonFollowing the appeal by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Kingdom joined with other countries in accepting Chilean refugees. We agreed to consider applications sympathetically on their individual merits, subject to personal acceptability. Comprehensive information about the response of other countries is not available, but such information as is available suggests that the burden is being shared fairly equitably.
