HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 c316W
28. Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will show the full extent of steel pipe requirements for the North Sea oilfields, and which firms or countries have won these orders for steel pipes.

Mr. John Smith

It is estimated that in the present year demand for steel pipe will be of the order of 90,000 to 100,000 tonnes for well casing and 200,000 tonnes for pipelines. The major proportion of the well casing has been supplied by the British Steel Corporation, but all the pipeline has come from overseas as the BSC does not make pipe to the special requirements of the oil companies for use in submarine service.
