§ Mrs. Winifred Ewingasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what special arrangements are being negotiated for Great Britain and Italy within the EEC on account of the economic problems of those countries.
§ Mr. DellThe EEC, after examination of Italian economic policies has extended a medium-term credit to Italy to help deal with its serious balance of payments problems. As I explained on 21st November in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Dartford (Mr. Irving)—[Vol. 881, c.549]—the United Kingdom obtained exemption from participation, as provided for countries themselves having balance of payments difficulties, but has offered to maintain its existing short-term credit.
