HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 c323W
Mrs. Winifred Ewing

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what special arrangements are being negotiated for Great Britain and Italy within the EEC on account of the economic problems of those countries.

Mr. Dell

The EEC, after examination of Italian economic policies has extended a medium-term credit to Italy to help deal with its serious balance of payments problems. As I explained on 21st November in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Dartford (Mr. Irving)—[Vol. 881, c.549]—the United Kingdom obtained exemption from participation, as provided for countries themselves having balance of payments difficulties, but has offered to maintain its existing short-term credit.
