HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 cc428-9W
Q11. Mr. Churchill

asked the Prime Minister whether he will now set up a Royal Commission on freedom of the Press and broadcasting.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Home Secretary has already announced the Government's decision to set up a committee of inquiry under Lord Annan's chairmanship to consider the future of broadcasting. The whole question of an inquiry into the newspaper industry and the Press is receiving urgent consideration, and I hope to make a statement later this week.
