HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 c460W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authority housing projects in Wales were turned down by the Welsh Office or sent back for substantial amendment due to the operation of the housing cost yardstick.

Mr. John Morris

Since the special market allowance was introduced in November 1972 about 20 schemes have not been able to proceed on cost grounds. A review of the cost yardstick system was announced on 19th April.

Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he can give a date for the start of building new primary schools at Cwntwrch, Llangattock, and Llangynidr.

Mr. John Morris

The Cwmtwrch proposal will be approved as soon as an acceptable tender is received. The replacement of the school at Llangattock is a minor work and it is for the Powys local education authority to decide on which projects to spend its minor works allocation. Because of the cuts in public expenditure a start on a new school at Llangynidr cannot be made until after 30th June 1975.
