HL Deb 30 April 1974 vol 351 c99WA
LORD REIGATE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will give an assurance that no second runway will be built at Gatwick Airport.

THE MINISTER OF STATE, DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRY (LORD BESWICK)

The extent to which further use of Gatwick can be achieved will be one of the matters to be considered in the review of the Maplin project which I announced on March 21 but whether and if so to what extent this is desirable and necessary must depend upon the outcome of the review which is now in progress. In the meantime I do not consider it will be necessary to provide a second runway at Gatwick in the foreseeable future.
