HC Deb 30 April 1974 vol 872 c436W
Mr. Madden

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what import levies and duties on food imported into the United Kingdom from non-EEC countries were raised in April of this year.

Mr. Peart

In April the United Kingdom made the second move towards alignment with the EEC levy rates and tariffs where applicable for those items covered by the common organisation of the markets in dairy products and beef and veal. Levy rates actually charged vary with changes in world prices. In practice the effect of the transitional arrangements and the system of monetary compensatory amounts reduce the import charge; for most of our imports of beef and veal the charge is reduced to zero.
