HC Deb 29 April 1974 vol 872 c383W
Mr. David Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what it would cost in a full year to apply age exemption relief to all taxpayers of the age of 65 years and over irrespective of their total taxable incomes, thus compounding the present tapered relief into a standard income tax allowance for all elderly taxpayers.

Dr. Gilbert

The cost of giving all taxpayers over 65 a personal allowance equal to the existing age exemption limit would be about £160 million for the current year.
