HC Deb 29 April 1974 vol 872 c394W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what were the imports into the United Kingdom by volume and value in 1972 and 1973 of manganese, nickel, chrome and copper.

Mr. Deakins

Details are published partly in Table III and partly in Table IV of the appropriate December issues of the Overseas Trade Statistics, except for the following items:

take to safeguard the British film industry;

(2) what is his policy towards establishing a National Film Fund subsidised from the Eady Fund;

(3) what is his policy towards establishing a Goverment subsidy for non-profit-making film companies or films made for the public good and of high quality;

(4) what is his policy towards establishing a publicly-owned film circuit in competition with the existing distributors;

(5) what is his policy towards establishing outlets for films appealing to minority audiences; and which groups are to be catered for.

Mr. Deakins

I shall shortly be receiving the final report of the Cinematograph Films Council about these and other questions concerning the prospects of the industry. I shall then consult my hon. Friend the Member for Putney (Mr. Jenkins), Under-Secretary of State for Education and Science—the Minister for the Arts—as well as the other interests concerned.
