HC Deb 29 April 1974 vol 872 c374W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Second Church Estates Commissioner whether he will consult the Church Commissioners with a view to the setting up of a church treasures museum in a suitable redundant church in each diocese of the Church of England.

Mr. Bishop

The commissioners would certainly regard a museum for church treasures as, in principle, a suitable use for a redundant church, and I may say that use as museums is one which they have already recommended to dioceses. It would be the responsibility of the diocese concerned to set up such a museum; the commissioners' responsibility would be confined to the making of a redundancy scheme under Part III of the Pastoral Measure 1968 to give effect to the recommendations of the diocese.
