HC Deb 10 April 1974 vol 872 cc220-1W
Mr. Rost

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated gross revenue from the imposition of value added tax on diesel oil; what is the estimated net revenue after those entitled to recover the tax have done so; and what is the estimated cost of collecting the net amount.

Dr. Gilbert

The output tax to be charged by final suppliers of diesel oil is estimated to be of the order of £75 million in a full year, but the net revenue from sales to consumers and exempt traders is likely to be small. The extra cost to Customs and Excise of collecting this revenue has not been calculated but will not be appreciable.

Mr. Cormack

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will take steps to zero-rate under VAT repairs to listed buildings.

Dr. Gilbert

I have noted the hon. Member's suggestion.
