HC Deb 10 April 1974 vol 872 cc160-1W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has about the average number of vehicles using Newmarket High Street in any typical week or month during the winter and summer periods, from his studies in connection with a bypass.

Mr. Carmichael

The flow on the A45 in the centre of the town for a normal August day in 1974 was predicted in 1972 to be approximately 33,000 vehicles in a 16-hour period. The provision of the bypass, with an interchange with the A142, was estimated to leave approximately 9,000 vehicles on this length of the A45 in a similar period. Information for the winter period was not obtained.
