HC Deb 10 April 1974 vol 872 cc164-5W
Dr. Vaughan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made by the Advisory Committee on Falsework under the chairmanship of Mr. Stephen Bragg; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Freeson

The committee has presented an interim report which is published today. The Government welcome the recommendations made by the committee which, if applied, should greatly reduce the risk of falsework failures. The recommendations fall mainly to be implemented by the industry and I am accordingly writing to it strongly commending the adoption of the recommendations by its members as setting a standard of good practice which they should follow. My Department is taking all steps open to it to ensure that the recommendations are adopted by contractors employed on its own projects.
