The most recent estimate for the South-East Region is 2,339 patients per general practitioner.

Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the patient-general practitioner ratio in the area specifically including Basildon UDC; what is the designated area; and how this compares with the national average.

At 1st January 1974 there were 2,528 patients per general practitioner in the area of Basildon UDC; the area includes Basildon New Town, Wick-ford and Billericay. Basildon New Town is classified by the Medical Practices Committee as "open", Wickford as "intermediate" and Billericay as "designated". The latest available estimate for the national average, at 1st October 1973, is 2,398 patients per general practioner.
