§ Sir J. Gilmourasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will detail the shortages of school teachers in the following education authorities in Scotland: Glasgow, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Bute, Argyll, Fife and Stirlineshire.
§ Mr. William RossReturns at September 1973 showed that only Argyll, with an overall shortage of five teachers, failed to reach the prescribed minimum staffing complements for primary schools. There are no prescribed complements for secondary schools; but by the standards proposed in the Report "Secondary School Staffing" for achievement by 1977–78, overall shortages were: Glasgow, 356; Lanarkshire, 629; Renfrew-shire, 196; Ayrshire, 15; Bute, 12; Argyll, 18; Stirlingshire, 25. Dunbartonshire and Fife are already staffed in overall terms in excess of the proposed standards.
