HC Deb 09 April 1974 vol 872 c146W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his Department's latest estimate of the current shortage of dwellings in Wales.

Mr. John Morris

No meaningful estimate of the number of houses needed in Wales has been made in recent years. The Government are, however, taking urgent measures to arrest the decline in the house building programme.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the annual rate at which new dwellings are planned to be constructed in Wales during the next five years.

Mr. John Morris

The Government's objective is to improve and speed up the house building programme in Wales, but it would be impracticable to make specific forecasts at this point in time.
