§ Mr. Clemitsonasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection how many prosecutions have been brought under the Fair Trading Act in cases of persons charging more than the maximum resale prices for electricity, as published by electricity boards; and how many of these prosecutions have been successful.
Mr. Alan WilliamsOvercharging for the resale of electricity is not in itself an offence under the Act. The Director General of Fair Trading has power to propose that it should be regulated by order under Part II of the Act. He can also proceed, under Part III, against persons who persistently flout their legal obligations towards consumers of electricity. If my hon. Friend has evidence of persistent overcharging, the Director General will be glad to receive it.
