HC Deb 09 April 1974 vol 872 cc128-9W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases of suspected deliberate poisoning of children under the age of five years have been notified in each of the last five years for which records are available; how many of such cases were investigated by the police; how many of such investigations led to prosecutions; how many of such prosecutions resulted in convictions; how many such convicted persons were fathers and mothers, respectively, of the children concerned; and what were the ages of such children.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

The statistics readily available relate to deaths from poisoning which were investigated by the police as suspected offences of murder, manslaughter and infanticide, and are set out in the following tables:

Kingston upon Hull County Borough Council for the provision of a vehicle for the elderly at a capital cost of £8,000 in 1974–75. Humberside County Council is assuming responsibility for this project.

A circular shortly to be issued to local authorities will invite further applications for grants, including those for non-capital projects to commence in 1974–75.
