Mr. Ovenden

asked the Prime Minister what are the respective responsibilities of the departmental Ministers and the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer protection in relation to the prices of nationalised industries.

The Prime Minister

As I said in my reply of 28th March to the hon. Member for West Lothian (Mr. Dalyell)—[Vol. 871, c.178]—my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection is responsible for measures to deal with prices generally.

The appointment of my right hon. Friend involves no change in the responsibilities of my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Energy, Environment, Industry, Scotland and Trade in relation to the nationalised industries or their prices.
