HC Deb 08 April 1974 vol 872 cc30-1W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will consider recommending the use of mobile flashing hazard warning systems for cars and heavy goods vehicles; and if he will introduce measures to avoid multiple accidents.

Mr. Mulley

I believe the most effective method of making vehicles more conspicuous in fog is the fitting of high intensity red rear fog lamps. Flashing red or amber rear lights would be much less penetrating and would risk confusion with turning or braking signals.

On the second part of the Question I would refer the hon. Lady to my replies to the hon. Member for Northampton, South (Mr. Morris) on 19th March.—[Vol. 870, c. 79–80.]
