HC Deb 08 April 1974 vol 872 c41W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why he will not cause an investigation to be made by someone unconnected with the police into all matters concerning the relationships between ex-Commander Drury of Scotland Yard and the strip club owner James Humphreys.

Dr. Summerskill

Newspaper allegations in 1972 about Commander Drury's relationship with Mr. Humphreys were investigated at the time by a senior officer of the Metropolitan Police. Commander Drury resigned in May 1972. We have no reason to think that a further investigation now whether or not by someone unconnected with the police would serve a useful purpose.
