Mr. Robert Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he estimates that sufficient homes to let will be provided to satisfy the nation's needs following the measures announced by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Freeson

Much earlier than if the disastrous policies of the previous administration had continued. Those policies produced only 107,000 completed public sector dwellings in 1973, the lowest annual total since 1947; and the 1973 total of 113,000 dwellings started was the lowest annual total for the public sector in the post-war record.

Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish a table showing capital expenditure on housing construction in the public sector in England during the past 10 years, using 1964 prices as base.
