HC Deb 08 April 1974 vol 872 cc59-60W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the rents paid by local authority tenants in Wales goes to cover interest charges.

Mr. John Morris

Interest charges are met from the totality of housing income received by local authorities and it is not possible to attribute a ratio to any one source. For 1973–74 it is estimated that loan charges payable by Welsh housing authorities amounted to about £43 million and other costs to about £12 million. Against this the estimated relevant income was approximately £35 million from rents, £16 million from Government subsidies, £3 million from rate fund contributions, and £1 million from other income.
