HC Deb 05 April 1974 vol 871 c478W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why it has taken three years to extend car parking facilities at Armagh police station at a time when security forces vehicles are being booby trapped.

Mr. Orme

Construction work was delayed because there were protracted negotiations for acquiring the additional land necessary for the extension.

An extended car park at Armagh police station which provides parking for some 65 additional vehicles is now in operation.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what programme there is to improve the general interior condition of police stations in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Orme

The Police Authority has a planned programme for the maintenance and improvement of police stations in Northern Ireland. It maintains a regular review of accommodation requirements with the aim of improving con ditions as quickly as possible.

Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he intends to start rebuilding Lurgan police station; and whether he will take this opportunity to improve traffic flow from North Street to Church Place and simultaneously provide adequate observation of North Street, William Street and Church Place.

Mr. Orme

The Police Authority for Northern Ireland has in hand plans to replace Lurgan RUC station as soon as possible. The question of improvement of traffic flow and observation will no doubt be taken into account by the planning authority.
