asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to encourage the production of bread wheat in the United Kingdom.

British wheat now constitutes 54 per cent. of all flours compared with 28 per cent. in 1970–71. I am encouraging research to enable more soft wheat to be used by developing new varieties and new techniques.
