HC Deb 04 April 1974 vol 871 c440W
Sir B. Rhys Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he will take to improve the rate of recruitment to the Metropolitan Police.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

A special section of the Metropolitan Police is responsible for visits to schools and to Her Majesty's Forces at home and abroad, participation in careers exhibitions and conventions and the organisation of visits to Metropolitan Police training establishments. The Commissioner has been authorised to spend £100,000 during the current financial year on his recruitment campaign and a further £30,000 on a special campaign to recruit women police officers. In addition the force benefits substantially from central recruiting activities, on which £682,000 is to be spent this year.
