HC Deb 04 April 1974 vol 871 c425W
51. Mr. Fry

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is aware that the problems of itinerants camping by the highway is causing public concern, particularly in the Wellingborough constituency; and if he will take steps designed to protect the countryside in this respect.

Mr. Oakes

My right hon. Friend is well aware of the problems. The only real solution is to have many more official sites for these people. Local authorities were given the job four years ago. I look to the new reorganised authorities to tackle it with the urgency it requires.
