HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 c389W
Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the latest estimate of the cost of the Thames flood barrier and the associated works; and what are his plans for the future of this project.

Mr. Moyle

Based on December 1973 price levels the cost is now estimated at £230 million to £250 million. This is a substantially higher figure than the earlier estimates, but the potential cost of the damage to London which the project is designed to prevent has risen in the same manner. The project therefore remains economically worth while and I intend to go through with it.
