HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 cc371-2W
Lord Balniel

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether it is the intention of the Government to proceed with the airport developments at Luton Airport, in particular the increase in the scale of the terminal buildings to 43,050 square feet.

Mr. John Silkin

My predecessor made no objection to proposals by Luton Corporation to extend the airport terminal building mainly because of the very unsatisfactory passenger accommodation. The corporation had already decided to reduce the number of summer night jet flights and has now offered to introduce overall limits on the total number of flights by day and night throughout the year.

I have received a number of representations on the effects of this decision, which I am considering and will write to the right hon. and noble Member.
