§ Mr. Tom Boardmanasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the amount of family allowance and other social security benefit paid to dependants overseas of immigrants living within the United Kingdom for the period of 12 months up to the latest convenient date.
§ Mr. O'MalleyFamily allowances are not normally payable in these circumstances except under the terms of the EEC Social Security Regulations. Expenditure for the period 1st April 1973 to 27th March 1974 amounting to £38,280 was mainly in respect of dependants in the Irish Republic. Increases of national insurance benefits in respect of dependants overseas are normally payable to persons in the United Kingdom only under the EEC regulations and bilateral reciprocal agreements. I regret that figures are not available.
