HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 c388W
Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a further statement on his policy towards assisting the horticultural industry to overcome the difficulties which have arisen as the result of increases in the price of fuel oil.

Mr. Moyle

I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. Newens

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the varieties of fruits, vegetables and other horticultural crops normally grown in Great Britain cultivation of which is to be restricted or prohibited by decisions taken as a result of British membership of the European Economic Community.

Mr. Moyle

The implementation in Great Britain of EEC Directives 464/69 and 465/69 has resulted in some changes in the circumstances in which the growing of potatoes may be restricted or prohibited; and on land where the presence of wart disease or potato cyst eelworm is officially confirmed, the growing of any plants for transplanting is prohibited.
