HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 cc380-1W
97. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy over grants and loans for fishing boats: and if he will make a statement.

Mr. William Ross

The policy of the Government is to give such financial assistance as will maintain a modern and efficient fishing fleet. There will be early discussions with the industry on the removal of the moratorium on grants and loans which was introduced by the previous administration.

Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what applications by number and value for grants for fishing boats have been submitted to the EEC.

Mr. William Ross

Applications in respect of 12 fishing vessels valued at £1.9 million were submitted by the United Kingdom for grant under the FEOGA individual projects scheme for 1973. Applications for 12 vessels valued at £2.8 million have been submitted so far under the 1974 scheme. Ten and nine respectively, each valued at £1.6 million, are from Scotland.
