HC Deb 03 April 1974 vol 871 cc384-5W
Mr. Ford

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what messages he has sent to the Brazilian Government following the recent flooding and loss of life; if he will take steps to offer appropriate assistance to Brazil; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. James Callaghan

A message of sympathy to the Brazilian Government has been sent on my instructions through Her Majesty's Ambassador in Brasilia.

I have received a report from the ambassador about the loss of life and incidence of distress and have asked him for advice about the aid, if any, which the Brazilian Government may need. I will decide in the light of his reports what help we can offer.
